Parable of Mercy Competition:

This year, Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee Year of Mercy. This is a year where we are encouraged to think about the good things God has given to us and how we can be more like Jesus by performing works of mercy on a local level.

Works of mercy can take on two forms.

Corporal works of mercy: These are the physical (seen) things that we can do for eachother.

  • Collecting money for the poor
  • Project compassion walkathon
  • Helping our friends when they are hurt
  • Including those who may not have anyone to play with etc.

Spiritual works of mercy: These are the things we can't always see but make others feel better:

  • Forgiving Others
  • Teaching people about Jesus
  • Helping others work through problems and reminding them that Jesus is always there for them

This term, we will be looking at some of the Parables of Mercy. Parables are special stories in the bible that have a moral or hidden message. The following are examples of parables that talk about Mercy in some way and are all included in our 'Parables of Mercy' competition:

  • Parable of 'The Prodigal Son'
  • Parable of 'The Good Samaritan'
  • 'Washing of the Feet'
  • Parable of 'The Lost Coin'
  • Parable of 'The Yeast'
  • Parable of 'The Lost Sheep'
  • Parable of 'The Labourers in the Vineyard'
